1. (a) Explain the merits of a matching financing plan relative to a financing plan that extensively

uses (i) long-term financing or (ii) short-term financing.

(b) Easy Limited specialises in the manufacture of a computer component. The component is currently sold for Rs. 1,000 and its variable cost is Rs. 800 for the current year ended December 31, the company sold on an average 400 components per month.

At present, the company grants one month's credit to its customers. It is thinking of extending the same to two months on account of which the following are expected :¬

Increase in Sales - 25% ; Increase in Stock Rs. 2,00,000 ; Increase in Creditors Rs. 1,00,000.

You are required to advise the company on whether or not to extent credit terms if (i) all customers avail of the extended credit period of 2 months; (ii) existing customers do not avail the credit terms but only the new cu6stomers avail of the same. Assume the entire increase in sales is attributable to the new customers. The company expects a minimum return of 40% on the investments.

3. (a) "The M M thesis is based on unrealistic assumptions". Evaluate the reality of the assumptions made by MM. .

6. Unionism in Public Services like, state police force is a hot topic being discussed and debated in India recently. Some of the State Government have also encouraged and introduced unionism in their police force. It has mixed result. Other public services are telephone, transport etc. opinions offer the pros and cons of unionism in public services. Some of these are given below:

Antagonist: Public Services are arteries of public service life. Unionism and collective bargaining in such services goes against public interest. Employees in public service have alternate means of settling their disputes. They also have freedom of negotiations even though machineries are not

formalised way of collective bargaining. But all the same, form is less important as long are. contents are there.

Protagonists: Lack of unionism in public services create a second class citizenship. Fight against injustice is a birth right. While all citizens enjoy their right to product there interest, employment in Public service can't be a justification of denying this fundamental right to them.

17. Michael was the maintenance supervisor of a large taxicab company. He was very concerned because the cab drivers were not reporting potential mechanical problems. Several months previously he had complemented a preventive maintenance programme. This programme depended upon drivers filing out a detailed report when they suspect any problem. But this was not happened on a number of occasions a cab left the garage with major problems that the previous driver aware of but had not reported. Calling out the field repair teams to fix the breakdown was only costing the company much trouble and time, but it was in some cases very unsafe X create a high degree of customer ill will. 6. "A point is a point", said Mani, the foreman. But I simply cannot hire or hold our skilled man with these rates. He referred to rates based on a straight wage line fitted to the point values and wages rate on a dozen key jobs. The new rates had been in effect only for a short time. They were established following job evaluation on a unilateral basis by the employer. The wage line raised many job rates in the shop but it reduced those at the top. The job evaluation programme was undertaken to provide a basis for a sound wage structure throughout the shop. An inter¬departmental committee conducted it. Comparisons of earlier rates with wage survey, survey data had indicated that the old structure was not in line with those of the industry. The new wage line was keyed to rates shown in the survey.
